He was married on 14 Nov 1776 at Sharon, Norfolk County, Massachusetts to Susanna Curtis.

Studied medicine at Marlboro, MA with Dr.Samuel Curtis, whose niece Susanna Curtis of Sharon, MA he married 14 Nov 1776. At the time of the battle of Lexington he was living in Shutesbury, MA, and practicing his profession there. Soon after, however, he was sent as adjutant of a regiment of infantry to join General Gates at Saratoga, and was at the surrender of Burgoyne.
