Beer Garden to Open
The extensive changes and improvements and the entire renovation of the loser floor of the Milford hotel which have been proceeding quietly for some time, will be made visible to one and all of the friends and acquaintances of Mr and Mrs Heber T Hanks at 6 o'clock Saturday evening, when the formal opening of the Milford Hotel Beer garden will take place.
The southeast room, at one time occupied as a drug store, has been fitted up as a modern barroom while adjoining smaller rooms and the fine large former dining room west of the lobby have been furnished for the accommodation of public or private parties of any size. The place throughout has been fitted up with a view of accommodating both men and women and such a place will no doubt fill a real need in the community, not alone for local people but for the increasing number of transient folk who spend more or less time in Milford. . . .
Draught and bottled beers will be served at the new establishment and "dutch" lunches will be made a specialty. If conditions justify, facilities for serving breakfasts may be added later but nothing further in the way of meals will be attempted.

Heber T Hanks Dies at His Home In Los Angeles
Though he was known to have been failing fast in health, wires received in Milford Friday announcing the death of Los Angeles that morning of Hebert T Hanks, came as a saddening bit of news to innumerable people in Milford who had known him for various period of time.

Born and raised in Paragonah but coming to Milford about the time the community undertook to assume the title of the leading town of southern Utah, "Hebe" had, until the last few years, taken an active part in the business affairs of the community and the progressive growth of the business section of the town. The building at present occupied by the Corner Drug and the Smith apartments was his first building venture in Milford, followed soon by the three-story Hotel Milford, said to have been the first three-story structure south of Provo.
Though not one of the very first stockholders in the Milford State bank, he early became identified with it and served as vice-president and director.
Civic-minded and a loyal booster for Milford and western Beaver county at all times, Mr Hanks took prominent part in various service groups which were the forerunners of the Milford Lions club and in that organization after it was chartered as one of the first in southern Utah.

Selling his hotel, he and his wife and daughter located in Los Angeles, where he owned a beautiful home and a large apartment house in a choice section of the city.
With the coming of the depression, the purchaser of the local hotel was not able to go through with his contract and "Hebe" returned to Milford and operated it until a couple of years ago, when he sold to L A Sanford. Coming back to Milford was quite to his liking, as he frequently expressed himself, and he seemed to take a new lease on life while he was here with friends whos companionship he seemed to prize so highly.

Simple funeral services were held Monday in the Little Church of the Flowers in Los Angeles. A feature of the service is said by friends to have been piano numbers by Miss Jane Hanks, daughter and a brilliant young musician.

Among those former residents of Milford who attended the funeral were Mrs Jennie Hunter, Mrs E P Neff Rosenberg, Mrs Gertrude Hicks, Mrs Lucile McKay, Mrs J F Calloway, Mrs Dell Duffin, Mr and Mrs Olsen, Mrs James Love, Mrs and Mrs Gene Buchanan, Mr and Mrs Dave Powell, Mr and Mrs Shirley Atkins, William Forgie and others, in addition to relatives of the family.
Mr Hanks was born at Paragonah July 14, 1876, and is survived by his wife and daughter, also two brothers, J S Hanks of Salt Lake City and another brother in Oregon.
