James was the youngest son of the famed Captain James Bidlack of the Battle of Wyoming, who fell while leading his men against the "Minions" of King George the 3rd. James Jr. died accidently in Sheshequin while loading a raft.

Page 363b states the following: George Murfee was born in Esquire Depew's barn, on the Delaware, near Stroudsburg, Pa., September 30, 1778. James Bidlack was born at the same place. The fathers of each of these boys were killed at Wyoming, and their mothers fled with the fugitives to the Delaware River.
