Gale J. Barton, of Willcox, died March 26, 2007 at the age of 75. He was born in Denver, Colo., on March 7, 1932.

Gale served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Willcox in 1963 where he taught at the Willcox Elementary School until his retirement in 1998. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and was Past Commander of American Legion Post #20 and was currently treasurer. He was a member of the Willcox Elks Lodge #2131. On Sept. 1, 1984 in Willcox he married Bonnie Peebles.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Willcox; son John (Robin) Symonds of Willcox; his grandchildren Brandon, Cliffton and Candice Symonds and Edward James Lawler and Jennifer Lawler. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Joyce Barton of Springfield, Ill., a niece Brenda Barton of Milwaukee, Wis., and her daughter Summer and a nephew Brad Barton and his daughters, Rachel and Sarah. Preceding him in death was his parents O.J. and Eugenia (Coulfer) Barton and two brothers.

A visitation was held on Wednesday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Westlawn Chapel with funeral services on Thursday, March 29, beginning at 1 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery with flag presentation by American Legion Post #20 and Ben Levine playing taps. Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #20, c/o 550 N. Cochise, Willcox, AZ 85643.
