John M. French, an aged citizen of this place, died at his home here on the morning of Dec. 6, at 5:30 after an illness extending through about one year, of Bright's disease. His health had been so poor during this period of time that he had been to town only one time in the twelve months.
The subject was 73 years, 2 months, and 20 days of age having been born Sept. 16, 1843. He served two years in the Civil War between the states. Mr. French had been married three times. His first wife was Miss Lydia Bryan to whom he was married Sept. 12, 1867. to this union was born eight children, six of whom survive. The second wife was Miss Eliza J. Clamons. He was married to her Feb. 11, 1891, and six children survive this union. His third and surviving wife was Miss Bertha Williams whom he married August 5, 1902, four children of which union now survive. Mr. French in early life professed religion and united with the Christian church in whose service he lived and died. The burial service was conducted in Oak Grove Cemetery at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon by Rev. J.E. Evans of the First Christian Church, in the presence of a number of neighbors and friends. Twelve or fourteen of his children were present at the last rites.
