CORA A. SHAFER, 92 YEARS OLD, DIES HERE
Cora Adam Shafer, 92 of Novinger, died Wednesday night at a Kirksville hospital where he had been a patient since Sept. 23. He had been in failing health the past two years.
The son of Jacob and Josephine Shafer, he was born in Adair County on June 11, 1878. On Dec. 1, 1901 in Adair County, he married Henrietta Vanlaningham, who preceded him in death on May 4, 1922. Later he married Pearl Otto, who preceded him in death in 1954. Later he married Beulah Roberts, who preceded him in death in 1967. Also preceding him in death were two daughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Surviving are three sons, Dee Shafer of Novinger, Charlie Shafer of Green City, and Orville Shafer of Kirksville; one daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Nedra) James of Kirksville; 17 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shafer was a lifelong resident of Adair County where he was engaged in farming until his retirement.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Funeral Chapel of Davis & Davis. Burial will be in the Lutz Cemetery, southwest of Novinger.
Bearers will be his grandsons.
