William J. Facinelli, 83, a former resident of West Hazleton, died Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he had been living under his son David's watchful eye for the past five years.
He was slowly weakened by several ailments, but his gentle demeanor never faded and will always be treasured.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late William and Esther (Rossi) Facinelli and lived in the area for most of his life.
Prior to retirement in 1986, he was employed by Dorr-Oliver Inc. for 34 years as a buyer and lived a frugal lifestyle to provide MMI and college degrees from Lehigh, MIT and Wilkes to his three sons.
He was a graduate of McCann's Business School and served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II.
William was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Conyngham, where he served many years as an usher and where he and his wife volunteered for countless events.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his brother, Henry; his son, Richard, who died in 1990; and his wife, Mary Jane "Jenny" Facinelli, who died in 1996 and who was an inseparable friend, supporter and lover for 45 years.
Surviving are sisters, Kathryn Scarlato and Doris Brankovich, both in the Hazleton area; a brother, Richard, Bethlehem; and sons, William and his wife, Diane, and their two children, Phoenix, Ariz.; and David and his wife, Ruby, and their two children, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Fierro Funeral Service, 26 W. Second St., Hazleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Saturday in Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, Drums.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
