ORESTO SMITH

Oresto W. Smith, 79, died Saturday at Queen of the Valley Hospital. Mr. Smith was born on Jan. 28, 1910, in Carlisle, Ark.

He worked several jobs in 48 states in his youth, and during and after World War II he worked as a millwright, retiring in 1975.

 Mr. Smith visited and lived with different relatives and moved to Burney in 1983. He then moved to Napa this year to live with his brother, George D., and family.

He enjoyed his 26 nieces and nephews, and their 55 children and 23 grandchildren, with whom he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, chess games and sports.

In his later years, Mr. Smith enjoyed the fellowship of going to senior lunches and found a church home at First Christian Church in Napa.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union in Northern California and the Oregon-Washington Carpenters Union.

Mr. Smith is survived by three brothers, George D. and Oscar J., both of Napa, and Orlando J. of Tennessee; one sister, Geraldine Smith Carr of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Celestia Smith Bradberry, and two brothers, Oran E. and Forlando K.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens in Concord, followed by a memorial service at First Christian Church, 2659 First St., Napa, at 1 p.m. with Wayne Wells and Dick Osness officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Thru The Bible Radio Ministry, Box 7100, Pasadena, 91109-7100.
