Uncle "Dukes" as he was affectionately called was the son of Mitch Corry and Mariah (Jefferies)Corry. He came from a large farming family consisting of six boys and six girls. At an early age he decided farming was not for him and embarked on a career in Education. He graduated from Johnson C. Smith University and North Carolina AT&T College. After graduating, he married the late Izetta(Knuckles) Corry a former school Teacher. They spent many wonderful years together. After retiring from the School system as a Teacher and Principal he owned and operated a Taxi Cab stand in Shelby N.C.. He always stressed the importance of education and was a wonderful role model. I will always treasure the many converstaions with Uncle Dukes. He was one of the few surviving relatives that personally knew my grandfather Herbert Lemuel Corry who died in 1924. He shared many fond memories of him as well as other pertinent genealogical information with me. Uncle Dukes is sadly missed.
