About Henry Brewer Quinby and Henry Cole Quinby:
Henry Brewer Quinby was Governor of New Hampshire from 1909-1910. He was born in Biddeford, Maine on June 10, 1846 and attended Bowdoin College, where his grandfather Moses Quinby had been a member of the first graduating class. After graduation, he moved to Washington, DC, where he received his medical degree in 1880 from the National College. Returning to New Hampshire, Quinby was elected a member of the state legislature in 1887 and of the state Senate in 1889. In 1891, he was elected to the Executive Council. As president of the Republican State convention in 1896, he delivered a notable address In 1909, he was elected governor.

During his term as governor, state trunk lines were located and partially built, and he worked on the state house enlargement. After his term, he became an active Mason, earning his 33rd degree and serving as Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge. Quinby had many other affiliations, including membership in the Board of Overseers at Bowdoin, the Pepperell Association, and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a trustee at the Masonic Home in Manchester, NH, the NH Literary Institution and the NH Historical Society. He was also president of the Laconia National and the City Savings Bank.

Henry Brewer Quinby was married to Octavia (Cole) and had two children, Henry Cole and Candace E. He died in 1925 at the age of 79.

Henry Cole Quinby, Henry Brewer's son, was born in Lakeport, New Hampshire, on July 9, 1872. He attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, after which he moved to New York City to practice law, and for some time was professionally associated with Joseph H. Choate. During World War I, he was an active member of the American Defense Society. Over the course of his short life, he became active in many other organizations, including the Union League Club, the Society of Mayflower Descendants of New York State, the Grant Monument Association, the Harvard and Amateur Comedy Clubs and the city and state Bar Associations.

Henry Cole Quinby was married to Florence (Cole). He had a keen interest in genealogy and wrote the first of two volumes of the Quinby-Quimby Family History. Just before his death, he completed the manuscript for the book, Richard Harding Davis: A Bibliography, published posthumously by E.P. Dutton in 1924. Henry Cole Quinby died October 23, 1922.
