Other children are daughters, Mildred Burnside, Linda Jackson, Brenda Brooks, and Pamela Denise Burnside, and sons Melvin, Robert Jr, Calvin, Joseph, Daniel, Dexter and Garry Burnside. In 2004 several family members opened the Burnside Blues Cafe in Holly Springs, MS.

Alice Mae Burnside will be remembered forever, as her husband R.L. paid her tribute in his song "Alice Mae" (released on his 1997 CD entitled "Mr. Wizard" and covered by Samuel L. Jackson in the movie Black Snake Moan), with the lyrics, "If you see my baby, they call her Alice Mae, tell all them fellas, they'd better stay away, my woman she love me, she sure do treat me fine, mess with my woman, I have to take your life."
