Sherman Pirkle, 94, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday at Wirth Hospital. He was a World War I veteran and had retired from Ditney Hill Coal Mine. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church and Oakland City Masonic Lodge No. 467. Surviving are a son, a sister, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Anna, died in 1988.
