HENRY CRAIG WALTERS

Henry was the first child born to Mose Oliver(Old Mose) and Synthia A. Franklin Walters,Sr. in Rankin or Jones County, Mississippi. Two other children born in Rankin were Sarah J.(*Aunt Sallie) b.1855; and Early Columbus Walters b.December 1857-1858. *Some researchers think there was another child named Frank V. Walters, but I think he was a cousin.

Old Mose married for the second time after Synthia his first wife died in about 1861 in Rankin County.

The second marriage was in Laurel, Mississippi to Suvilia A.Walters Walters. They came to Woodville, Tyler, Texas together after the Civil War with his three children of his marriage to Synthia Anna Franklin Walters and their children together after July 1868. The children were, Henry Crig b. 1851; Sarah J. (Sallie) b.1855; Early Columbus b. 1858; Robert Marian b.1863, Alice Sevilie b. 1867; and Holden Samuel b. 1868, all born in Ms.. The next six children were born in Texas, William Stacy b. 1872; Wiley b. 1875; Marshall b. 1878; Mose Oliver,Jr. b.1880; and twin boys b. July 1883. One twin was given a name Robert because he lived for a short while and the other twin died at birth and was not given a name. The family has always said the twins and mother died at Mart, McLennon, Texas, but we have never found her or the twins graves.

Henry Craig Walters's first marriage was to Iseta Stone. Thier first child, Ruth was born may 30,1873 in Trinity, Texas; Nannie b. 1874; Joe Marian b. 1882, both in Texas. *Willie Durklen b. September 10, 1884 in Mississippi. (Willlie was born when Henry Craig and family, went to take their father Old Mose who had face cancer; his sister Sarah J. and the children from his father's second marriage to Suvilia A. Walters or Watters, (listed above), back to Mississippi, so he could have more help with the young children because the doctor said he would die from the cancer soon. He died October 8, 1887, so he lived from early 1884 till 1887, which is about four years. (see story on his FindAGrave Memorial Page told to me by one of his Ms. grand daughters, Minnie Mae Walters Jones, daughter of Mose Oliver,Jr.)

Henry Craig came back to Texas noted by the birth of his fifth and sixth children, Charles Franklin b. November 29, 1888 and Mary Marie Walters b. July 29, 1894 in Texas. Suvilla died at the results of Mary Marie's birth.

Henry Crig married for the second time to Hattie Smith in Falls County, Texas, January 22,1895. They had a male child about 1894. They divorced and the boy child was adopted out. I do not even know his given name. Mother said Hattie Stone had two brother, Emmerson Smith and Houston Smith.

Henry Craig's third marriage was to Hattie Frances Vaught in Grosbeck, Limestone, Texas, September 15, 1899.(she is my grandmother.) They moved to Hamstead, Arkasas and were in the 1900 census in Hempstead County, Arkansas. The first child of this union was my mother, Mattie Oma Walters Coe. b. August 27, 1900 just over the Arkansas state line into Sledgman, Missouri.
