CHILLICOTHE - Guy Edward Crull, 83, of Chillicothe, formerly of Henry, passed away at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at his residence.
He was born to William Earl and Mabel Rose Lyons Crull in Chillicothe on Sept. 29, 1922. He married Mary Fulton Prather. She preceded him in death. He married Irvina "Renee" F. Seeley in Princeton, Ill., in 1968. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sandy (John) Brian and Patti (Denny) Donath, both of Chillicothe; one son, Tom (Connie) Crull of Putnam; one stepson, Walt (Lynn) Dunbar of Henry; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Guy worked as a service technician for GTE/Verizon for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He was the driver of a tank named "Murder Incorporated" that was blown up and his four crewman were killed. He spent two years in hospitals before he was able to come home. He received two Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Clusters, numerous campaign medals, four battle stars and a Bronze Arrowhead for valor.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4999 and the D.A.V. and was the longest active member of American Legion Post 9 in Chillicothe. He also was a member of the Mohammed Temple, Shrine, and Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Peoria, and was a life member of the Peoria Casting Club.
He was a member of St. Francis Episcopalian Church in Alta, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel. The Rev. John Throop will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be made to Chillicothe Rescue 33 or the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill.
