Lucio Edward Simms, 85, of Culpeper died on Monday, September 21, 2009 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on May 18, 1924 in Culpeper, to the late James and Blanche Simms.

Mr. Simms recently joined St. Steven's Baptist Church in Stevensburg. He truly enjoyed helping others in any way he could, building and inventing new things and reminiscing about the old days and good times. He will always be remembered as a cherished husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Orange Simms, his daughter, Sally Dodson and her husband, Thomas of Culpeper, his granddaughter, Ciara Dodson and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Taylor, Carrie Alexander, and Mary Green.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Steven's Baptist Church with Rev. James Holmes and Rev. James Mack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in St. Steven's Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Dodson, Faron Taylor, Gilbert Orange, Jr., Tony Mack and Harry Mack.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Simms name to the St. Steven's Baptist Church 19075 York Rd, P.O. Box 4, Stevensburg, VA 22741.
