Clayton Yancey, 85, of the Farlington and Englevale area, died at 6:50 A.M., Monday, September 21, 2009, in the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard where he entered in August of 2004.
He was born June 15, 1924 in Mulberry, Kansas, a son of Harrison and Susie (Gary) Yancey.
He attended Garfield School east of Farlington and the Girard High School where he was a charter member of the Future Farmers of America.
He served in the US Army during WWII and received a Bronze Star.
He and his brother Claude worked as dairymen, farmers, and they were registered Holstein breeders, responsible for numerous Grand Champion Holsteins.
He was a former member of the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard and past-president of the Kansas Holstein Association and the National Holstein Association.
Survivors include a sister, Althea Spragg Gilgen and her husband, Alfred of Murrieta, California; a nephew, Larry Spragg; a great-nephew, Jason Spragg, and a great-niece, Jillian Spragg, all of Hemet, California.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Claude E. Yancey, on October 31, 1995.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:00 P.M., Friday.
