Max D. Altman, 79, Salina, died Saturday, December 3, 2005.

Mr. Altman was born March 10, 1926, in Ada. He was the co-owner and operator of Altman Construction & Supply, Salina, for 20 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Battle of Okinawa, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Werries Altman, in 2001; his parents, Arthur Gilbert Altman and the former Amanda Lauraine Lundstrom; a son-in-law, Sam, in 1998; four brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include a son, Gilbert and wife Nancy of Salina; two daughters, Linda Mynhier of Salina and Joleen Whitfill and husband Dave of Topeka; a sister, Ada Harris of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Lori Adam, Jennifer Schafer, Sara Herman, Brett Whitfill and Jessica Whitfill; and three great-grandchildren, Carli Adam, Kyla Adam and Madison Schafer.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina, the Rev. Kent Happel officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, with military honors.

Memorials may be made to Tescott American Legion Post 255, Tammy Walker Cancer Center or Hospice of Salina.
