Vera Rose Winthrop Webb, 89, passed away May 24, 2005, in Heber City, Utah. She was born February 5, 1916 in Ilasco, Missouri. She was the oldest of eight children raised in the home of Paul LeRoy and Mamie Fern Carpenter Winthrop. She graduated from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, Missouri in 1933.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served a mission in the Southern States Mission from 1936-1938. While serving there she met Elder Antone Webb. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on June 29, 1940. Vera was a fabulous homemaker, turning ordinary things into works of beauty for family and friends. She had many talents and enjoyed sharing her handmade gifts with those she loved. Vera was compassionate and generous in her relationships with others. She worked for many years at Western Printing Company in Hannibal as a proofreader and supervisor. Vera had a delightful personality and a fun sense of humor which drew others to her. She faithfully served for many years as Relief Society President and in other callings while Tony served as Branch President in Hannibal. Vera and Tony were called to serve a mission in Nauvoo, IL in 1978. After their return they were called to work in the Provo Temple. Vera moved to Heber City to live with her daughter in 2001 after Tony's death.
She was preceded in death by Tony, her husband of 61 years; a daughter, Denna S. Reutenauer; a son, David S. Webb; a grandson, Paul A. Reutenauer; and twin great-grandsons.
She is survived by a daughter, Dixie (Jerry) Surratt of Heber City, UT; sons, Douglas A. (Kathy) Webb of Fargo, ND, and Donovan P. (Ann) Webb of Kahului, HI; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Webb of Erie, PA. She has 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heber East Stake Center, 2395 S. Mill Road (1200 E.), in Heber City, Utah. A viewing will be held for one hour immediately preceding the funeral beginning at 9:45. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery. Arrangements are by SereniCare Funeral Directors, Sandy, Utah.
