Lory Allen, 74, of Oroville and a lifetime resident of Okanogan County passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2009 from complications of Alzheimers disease. Lory was born Loretta Marie Wood to parents, Arliss M. Wood and Eileen A. Wood in Okanogan, Wash., Oct. 14, 1934. She attended Catholic School in Omak, Nespelem, and Okanogan.

Lory was active in the Oroville School Board, Oroville May Day Association and the Oroville TV Association. She and her husband, Gary, became EMTs together, and served as volunteers for the Oroville Fire Dept. for several years. Lory and Gary together opened and operated the Sears Merchant Catalogue Store in Oroville from 1969 to 1982. During that time, she and her niece, Tedi, owned and operated a craft and health food store called "The Country Mouse" from 1976-1978.

Lory continued to be a homemaker and avid crafter after retirement. She taught and took community classes such as "Signing for the Hearing Impaired" and always loved to learn new things. She and Gary took numerous "Harley Rides" around the country with friends and, in fact, she continued to ride with Gary until last summer.

Lory had a wonderful sense of humor, loved time with her family, and truly treasured her friends. She loved riding in the hills around Oroville, mushrooming, looking for wildflowers, and enjoying the out-of-doors.

Our wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and niece Lory will be missed by all of us. She possessed the capacity to love us all deeply. Lory loved life and always had a smile for each person she met. She was compassionate and caring to all those around her.

Lory is survived by her husband, Gary J. Allen, of Oroville; her daughter, Peggy (Robert) Kirk, of Wenatchee; her son, Rick Allen of Chesaw; her son, Dick (Elizabeth) Allen, of Laredo, Tex.; her sister, Janet (Jack) McDonald, of Arizona; her grandchildren, Brayden (Kate) Kirk of Spokane and Kindall (Joseph) Wilbur of Irvine, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; her great-aunts, Edna Wood of Okanogan and Rosalie Dunne of Republic; as well as numerous close friends
