Fabian Duane Meiners, 82, of Fort Dodge passed away in his home on Friday, September 25, 2009.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at First Baptist Church with burial following at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. The visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Fabian was born at Twin Lakes, IA on October 21, 1926 to Roy and Luella Meiners. He graduated from Manson High School in 1945. He then joined the U.S. Army serving from 1945 1949. He married Marilyn Williams on September 9, 1951. He worked and retired from Hormel's in 1982. He loved spending time with family, raising his children and worrying about his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and traveling the country. He was a member of First Baptist Church serving as the head usher and also serving on the board of trustees. He was also a member of VFW Post 1856 in Fort Dodge.
Fabian is survived by his wife of 56 years Marilyn; son Greg (Cindy) Meiners; daughter Beth (Chris) Freeman; grandchildren, Shelley Meiners, Courtney, Brock and Brady Freeman and Alex, Haley, Caleb and Lilly Meiners; brother Steven (Charlotte) Meiners of Columbia, MO and sister Virginia (Dennis) Hansen of Havelock, IA. He was preceded in death by his son Gordon Meiners and his parents Roy and Luella.
