Marvin E. 'Boog' Klingler, 78, of Turkey City, died at 10:08 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2001, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Born August 28, 1923, in Turkey City, he was a son of the late Edward and Twila Mae Dunkle Klingler. Mr. Klingler began working with his father at an early age drilling gas wells for Alum Rock Gas Company. He later worked for the Pennsylvania Drilling Company, the TNT Powder Plant in Geneva, and he retired from Koppers Chemical in Rouseville after 30 years of service. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Klingler served in the European Theater. He was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. A decorated combat veteran, he was wounded in action and captured October 5, 1944, in Holland. He spent the remainder of the war in a German concentration camp and was liberated April 29, 1945, by Allied troops. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was married December 24, 1947, to Bertha Whitmer, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Charles E. Klingler and his wife, Diane, of Turkey City; two grandsons, Christopher Klingler and Chad Edwin Klingler, both of Knox; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Martha) Berlin of Knox; an aunt, Gladys Weckerly of Laurel Manor in Emlenton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Klingler was preceded in death by a brother, William Klingler. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Hannold, pastor of Turkey City Church of God, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Monroe Cemetery.
