New Hampshire Governor. Born in Portsmouth, he was Governor from 1959 to 1963, winning on the Republican ticket for two terms. During his tenure he was a strong supporter of state aid to highway construction and tourism. He had been wounded and honored for his service in World War II in the Bomber Command of the Army Air Corps, European Theater of Operations. After leaving office he was an attorney in Manchester and Hampton Falls where he died.
