Robert D. McSwain, 77, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at his residence. He was born September 24, 1931 in Vale, NC, a son of the late Robert Floyd and Estel Sain McSwain.

Robert was a very gentle, loving husband and father, who enjoyed taking care of the home. He enjoyed tinkering on things. He was very proud to serve his country as an Honor Guard and to earn the Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed helping other people. Robert owned Alexandria Contractors, Inc for 25 years.

Mr. McSwain is survived by his wife, Patsy Griggs McSwain of the home; two sons, Larry Dean McSwain of VA and John Thomas McSwain (Lisa) of Myrtle Beach; one daughter, Cynthia Gail Gwynn (John) of AZ; two sisters, Nellie McSwain Skipper, and Joan McSwain Allen (Marvin) both of NC; seven grandchildren, Laura, Sarah, Josh, Justin, Ashley, Marissa and Michael and many other family and friends who will miss him.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Florence National Cemetery with Chaplain Burton Bosworth of Agape Hospice officiating.
