Sarah (family and friends called her "Sally") was the daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Clinch) Allen and was born near Peru, Clinton County, New York in 1806. Little is known about her early life. It is known that she married Seth St John on September 29, 1833 and they shortly established a farm near East Hubbardton, Vermont. Four children were added to the family: Samuel Wheeler, Sophia, Isaac Allen and Guy. Tragedy struck the family as two of the four children died at a very early age. Their daughter Sophia died when she was five years of age, and their youngest son Guy passed away when he was only two years of age. The family spent their entire lives in Rutland County farming. Sarah's husband Seth died in 1852 at the age of 52, leaving Sarah a widow. She remarried and became the second wife of Norman Jones. Sarah passed away on May 22, 1881 at the age of seventy-five and is interred with other members of the extended St John family in the East Hubbardton Cemetery.
