Margaret Robison was born in Tunkhannock, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, USA. She married Alva Phelps on 15 Nov 1835 in Onondago County, New York. Alva Phelps and Margaret were forced to flee the USA along with other Mormons from Zarahemla, Iowa. Upon arrival in the Winter Quarters area of Nebraska, Alva enlisted in the US Army Mormon Battalion. He died 16 Sep 1846 along the Arkansas River between Great Bend, Colorado and Ingalls, Colorado and was buried there. Some journals say that he was poisoned by the doctor assigned to the Mormon Battalion.

Margaret was left with 3 young children. Juliet Ann, Walter Alva, and Mary Lovina.

27 Feb 1848 she married William Erskine Bridges. By 1852 William had brought Margaret and her children to Fillmore, Utah.
