HEMBREE, Mrs. Kennie A. 91, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2005 with her husband of 67 years, Calvin Lon Hembree, and her daughter, Mary Jones, at her side. She was born September 2, 1914 in Stilwell, OK to James and Maude West. Kennie attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University where she earned a teaching certificate and then taught grades 1-7 in a one-room country school house for several years until she and Calvin started their family. Kennie and Calvin lived in Midwest City, OK from 1942 until May of 2005 when they moved to Dayton, OH to be near their daughter and her family. Kennie and Calvin were charter (founding) members of the First Baptist Church of Midwest City which began as a mission in a tent in 1943. She previously taught Sunday School for Juniors and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). When she could no longer attend church services, she loved listening to the sermons delivered on tapes by caring members from the church. She and Calvin were volunteers delivering Meals on Wheels for 17 years. Kennie loved to cook, sew, crochet, garden, work puzzles, and play games. She always had a kind word for everyone and was a joy to be around. She will be deeply missed and always remembered for the wonderful person that she was. She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Wilma Jean Oliver, two brothers and a sister-in-law: John M. West of Cape Coral, FL, and Edgar and Lillian West, of Stilwell, OK. In addition to her beloved husband Calvin, daughter Mary Jones, and son-in-law Russell C. Jones, Kennie is survived by two loving granddaughters and a grandson-in law: Tanya Lin Jones of Kettering, and Cynthia and Greg Hegstrom of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by a sister, Vera, and brother-in-law Lynn Robbins of Pasco, WA, and sister-in-law, Navlion West, of Cape Coral, FL. Special thanks to cousin Amie Patterson and her husband Darrell who were always there to help when needed, and to niece Ernestine and her husband Wayne Miller who always stayed in close touch. We thank our friends and family for all their prayers and acts of kindness. There will be no viewing. The funeral will be for family only.
