FORMER RESIDENT OF BREWSTER

In Younger Days Conducted a Lunch Room Here. Funeral Held This Afternoon.

Winfield Scott Haines died at his home in Bethel, Conn., early Wednesday morning, March 27, 1935, after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Haines was born in Drewville, Brewster, July 17, 1852, the son of Epinetus and Emily Mead Haines. He had a lunch room which he purchased from Augustus Diehl and which was located where Tuttle's news store is now. He later moved to Bethel, Conn., where for 50 years he worked at his trade as a blacksmith.

His first wife was Miss Francis Warren and they had three children. After her death he married Miss Belle Barnum, of Bethel, and at her death married Miss Emma Babbitt, of Bethel He was a member of the Congregational Church in Bethel.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Haines and three daughters, Anna, wife of Frederick Sterb, of Bethel; Edna, wife of Clifford Grummond, of Bethel; and Alice, wife of Howard Platt, of Redding; one sister, Mrs. Frank Birdsall, of Brewster, three nieces, Mrs. Fowler Losee, of Brewster, Mrs. Vincent Feather, of Hackensack, N.J., Mrs. Rudolph Lehman, of New York City, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Kyles Funeral Chapel, Bethel, at 3 o'clock. Rev. Frank Tishkins officiated. Interment was in the family plot in Center Cemetery, Bethel.
