SGT US Army

He began his twenty-three year military career in the Army at Ft. Clarke, TX in Troop B with the First Cavalry, Fifth Cavalry Regiment. He was the last of the mounted troopers. During WWII he was a platoon sergeant at Corregidor, Philippines with the 60th costal artillery. He was a Japanese POW for nearly four years. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation, and Purple Heart. He was also a survivor of the Hell Ship, The Noto Maru. Later he served in the Air Force and became a Chief Warrant Officer and a Special Agent with the OSI, and served in the Korean War. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a civilian and retired after 15 years service with the Headquarters of Industrial Security for the Air Force. He retired in 1979 to Smith Mountain Lake, VA.

He was survived by his wife of 42 years; two sons and their spouses; one brother and his spouse; three step-children; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment on November 30, 2009.
