A retired butcher and a U.S. Navy veteran of the first crew of the USS Boxer, he died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at The Retirement Center surrounded by family. He was 81 and a resident and native of Plaquemine. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine, on Monday, Sept. 28, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Cleo Milano, celebrant. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Berthilde LaBauve Bezet Babin; daughter, Claire Babin Posey and husband John; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Steven Babin, Mark and Debra Babin, Ernest "Andy" and Lisa Bezet, and Lester and Lynette Bezet; three sisters, Leona Bayham, Ruth Barrett, and Elaine Granger and husband Robert; brother, Gene Babin and wife Jeanette; seven grandchildren, Diane, Danielle, Jacob, Eric, Blake, Jared and Rachel; and three great-grandchildren, Campbell, Dane and Remy. Preceded in death by his parents, Allen Sr. and Clara Folse Babin. The family would like to thank The Retirement Center and LifeSource Hospice. He loved playing the guitar and listening to music.
