CATHOLIC PRIEST DIES; BUILT LOCAL CHURCH
The Rev. John F. Szukalski Was Ill Six Months - Funeral Probably Will Be Held Tuesday.
The Rev. John F. Szukalski, 53, pastor of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic church, Tenth and Hayes-avs, died early Wednesday at the parsonage, 1110 Windlake-av, after an illness of six months.
He was born in Swiekatow, West Prussia, Germany, and came to America with his parents in 1865, settling on a farm near Manitowoc, Wis.
After attending the parochial and public schools, he went to St. Francis seminary, where after nine years he was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Katzer. He
said his first mass in St. Casimir's church, Manitowoc, Wis. Then he was assigned to St. Michael's church, Beaver Dam, Wis., where he remained for five years. He built the SS. Cyril and Methodius church and was pastor here for more than twenty years.
Two sisters, Mrs. Stephan Kaminski, 1079 Tenth-av, and Mrs. Charles Stachowiak, 1002 Windlake-av; two brothers, Marion Szukalski, 1027 Windlake-av, and Thomas Szulalski, 1089 American-av, and an aged mother, living at the home of her son Thomas, survive.
The funeral probably will be held Tuesday, with interment in St. Adelbert's cemetery. Auxiliary Bishop Edward Kozlowski, who was a school day friend of Father Szukalski will officiate.
