He was the son of John Christopher Nelson and Martha Jane Mabe. He married Martha Lettitia "Lettie" Throckmorton on 16 Dec 1898. He was 18, she was 27. He died with Typhoid Fever obtained when Little Snow Creek flooded over into the spring where the family got their drinking water. Sadly, he was ony 40 years old and left a widow and six children.
