Father: STERLING ROBERT BOYKIN, b. 1810, GA; d. 1879, Russell County, AL.
Mother: Sarah 'Sally' HURT

The following is the result of my, David Pope, visiting with Dr. Jack McGee on 9 Jan 2003 to view the gravesite of Robert Henry BOYKIN. Robert Henry is the son of Sterling Robert BOYKIN and Sarah HUNT.

It is the only grave in the horse pasture of Dr. Jack McGee, 85 McGee Road, Seale, AL 36875. It is located off of AL Highway 169, about 6-7 miles due north of Seale, AL. Dr. McGee told me of finding the large headstone, sitting it erect and putting a small fence around it. It has correct dates of birth and death and has a notation "My Husband."

Robert Henry Boykin joined CSA in May, 1861; for 1 year served in the 6th AL Reg. He was captured at Vicksburg; after being exchanged, made a Lt. in Emery's Battery, Waddel's Batallion. Waddel's Batallion (artillery) was organized in Russell Co, AL in 1862; in 1863 the Battery was ordered to Dalton, GA.
The batallion's last action was defending Russell Co, AL at the Battle of Girard (Phoenix City), 16 Apr 1865 - after Lee's surrender, 9 Apr 1865. Robert Henry BOYKIN died of a wound received in the War.

His Last Will and Testament, dated 5 May 1871, in Book 3, Pg 5 Russell Co, AL (Phenix City Court House), referenced his wife, Eliza L. Boykin and F. A. Boykin as Executors, F. A. Boykin, guardian of his son, Robert and Eliza, guardian of the child by her body.

He also left his Policy in Life of his mother, Sarah, of $2000 to wife, Eliza.
