Amalia Auguste Pappritz was born 16 Feb 1850 in Naundf, Saxony, Germany. Her parents were Friedrich David Daniel Pappritz and Johanna Sophia Ludwig. She immigrated to the US with her mother and brother, Max William, arriving in New York on 24 Jun 1872. They traveled on to Manchester, Wisconsin where she married Friedrich Wilhelm Silgman on 26 Dec 1874 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manchester. They had seven children-Max, Ida, Clara, Alma, Ottilia (Delia), Otto and Emma. Later, Wilhelm built a house near Marquette and the family moved there.
