Student Union Administrator
Frederick Stanley DeMarr, 69, a former dean of students who retired in 1995 as assistant administrator of the student union at the University of Maryland, died of a heart attack Sept. 5 at his home in Hyattsville.
Mr. DeMarr was Dean of Students at C.W. Post College and Hofstra University during the 1960s. He earlier had been assistant dean of men at the University of Maryland, and he returned there in 1970.
Mr. DeMarr was born in Washington, D. C. and raised in Berwyn and Mount Rainier. He was a graduate of Hyattsville High School and the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the ROTC. He entered the US Army as a 2nd Lt. In the 1950s, he taught government, politics and history courses for the University of Maryland at military installations in Germany, Greenland, Labrador and Newfoundland.
Mr. DeMarr was president and historian of the Prince George's County Historical Society and a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Hyattsville; Duvall Society, American Clan Gregor Society, Sons of the American Revolution, Prince George's County Hall of Fame. He was also a longtime member of the Sigma Chi fraternity where he was a Grand Praetor and a member of the Order of Constantine.
