She was born April 27, 1913, in Divernon to Charles Edward and Nellie (Cowen) Vancil. She married Florin E. Barton in Springfield in 1937; he passed away in 2004.
Vivian was a graduate of Springfield High School and Brown's Business College. She was formerly employed by Earl Hodges and Sam Patton as a legal secretary. She was mother advisor of Rainbow Girls and member of Lalla Rookh Chapter of Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She was a volunteer for a number of organizations in Springfield. She served as a precinct election judge for many years. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith B. (husband, David R.) Williamson of Dixon and Jo Ann (husband, Randall K.) Steffens of Granville; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Karen Alsup officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
