Life closed for Mr. J. S. Newby Tuesday morning after an illness of tuberculosis. The past six weeks he has been sinking very rapidly. He was 69 years of age and resided in the Cardwell section his farm lying just on the line between Mercer and Washington counties. He was a substantial, honored citizen, a good neighbor and a splendid gentleman. No man was held in higher esteem in this section or was a better husband and father. He was born in Mercer county, and had resided for 27 years on the place where he died. He was a member of the Baptist church and his funeral will be held at Bethel this morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. Hitt, the pastor, conducting the services, assisted by Rev. Reed. The interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Besides his wife Mr. Newby is survived by the following children: Mrs. R. K. Reed, Mrs. Daniel Black and Mr. Hansford Newby, all of this county
