Robert "Bob" Farrell

Sioux Falls - Robert Leo "Bob" Farrell, 82, died May 15, 2003 at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Monday, May 19, 2003 at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Visitation will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 18, 2003, with a 3:00 PM Liturgical Wake Service, followed by a Rosary, with family present from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Robert Leo "Bob" Farrell was born September 28, 1920 in Avoca, MN to John and Jennie (Johnstone) Farrell. Bob attended grade school in Avoca until moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1930 with his family. He then attended St. Joseph Cathedral High School graduating in 1938. Bob was a livestock dealer until joining the U.S. Army during World War II on March 27, 1944. While in the army, Bob fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. Bob was honorably discharged July 23, 1945. Bob then returned to Sioux Falls and livestock dealing. Bob met Elizabeth M. "Betty" Kramer and they were married September 1, 1947 in Dell Rapids, SD at St. Mary Catholic Church. Bob and Betty made their home in Sioux Falls where they raised seven children.

Bob had a strong Catholic faith. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Elizabeth M. "Betty" of Sioux Falls; four sons, Ronald L. of Sioux Falls, Gary R. of Coral Springs, FL, Gene R. (Lorae) of Sioux Falls and Dr. Michael L. (Celeste) of San Antonio, TX; three daughters, Patricia Ann Farrell-Hursey (Steve C.) of Lake Oswego, OR; Sharon M. (Donn) Hirrschoff of Brookings and Mary K. (Todd) Schnider of Yankton, SD; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jacqueline Farrell OSF of Rochester, MN.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
