Services for Mae Akins, 85, of Shallowater will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lubbock with the Rev. E.L. Bynum officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

She died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001.

She was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Fannin County and married Lewis Akins in 1937 in Lubbock. He died May 21, 1988. She graduated from Shallowater High School and attended Texas Tech. She cared for the elderly and sat with them for many years as a caretaker. She was a homemaker.

She was on the board as a director for the Senior Citizens Center in Shallowater for many years and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than 60 years.

Two sons preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Eddie of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Judy Pace of Idalou; a sister, Marie Hembree of Huntington Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
