Adkins was born July 24, 1921, in Heppner, to Ralph and Ruth Bowman Adkins. He married Aletha Briggs on Aug. 28, 1950, in Seattle.
He had lived in Springfield since 1945. He worked as a millwright in the lumber industry and enjoyed remodeling old houses. He belonged to the Masonic and Elks lodges and the Methodist church. His family will remember him for his wit, kindness and storytelling.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diane Kuenzi of Silverton, Nan Adkins of Springfield and Kathleen Heer of Creswell; and four grandchildren.
