MRS SOPHINE L. HOWELL DIED THURSDAY AT PARAGOULD
Many friends here were saddened to learn Friday of the death of Mrs. Sophie L. Howell, formerly of Bentonville, who passed away Thursday night, July 2nd, at her home at Paragould, Ark., where she had lived for several years. Her death terminated invalidism for more than two years.
Mrs. Howell was the widow of the late Capt. J.L. Howell, prominent merchant and planter of Howell, Ark. She was born in Holy Springs, Miss., in 1862, but her home had been at Howell and other Eastern Arkansas places the greater part of her life. For a number of years Capt. And Mrs. Howell owned property in and near Bentonville and they and their two daughters made their home here during that time. Capt. Howell died several years ago.
Mrs. Howell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. Harry McPherson of Paragould, who before her marriage was Miss Corrie Covington of Bentonville, and Mrs. Terry Peel of Bentonville, the former Miss Rachael Howell. Her, son B.G. Covington, prominent Memphis, Tenn., and Eastern Arkansas business man, died only a few weeks ago.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howell were held Saturday afternoon at Paragould, conducted by the Rev. G.W. Pyles, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, South, of that city. Interment was in the mausoleum in Linwood cemetery at Paragould. Mrs. Howell had been a faithful member of the Southern Methodist Church throughout her life and personality embedded all the virtues and graciousness of the best of Southern womanhood.
