Adolph Frederick Schriner, 97, former resident of Ponca City, died Nov. 5, 2003, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kan. He had been a resident of Schowalter Villa since 1993.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, in the Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston, Kan., with the Rev. Cheryl Hershberger of Hesston Mennonite Church officiating. Interment will be held in Ponca City at 4 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park, Monday, Nov. 10. Family will greet friends preceding and following the funeral and burial services.

Adolph was born Nov. 9, 1905, in Otis, Kan. He was the son of Amelia and George Schriner. He attended schools in Otis and received his degree from Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kan. He was a teacher and football coach at Otis High School, Geneseo, and Hoisington High School before moving to Ponca City in 1942. He was employed as an inventory engineer with Continental Oil Company until his retirement in 1970. He enjoyed his work and traveling for Continental Oil, having traveled to Libya after retirement in 1973 to complete an inventory project for them. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Ponca City where he taught 13 and 14-year-old boys for 40 years, was a Deacon, member of the Silver Tones Choir, president and active member of XYZ, and also taught adult Sunday School classes. He enjoyed his family, visiting friends, church work, gardening and traveling. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his "words of wisdom."

Mr. Schriner was the husband of the late Vida Stukey Schriner, who preceded him in death in 1989.

He is survived by one sister, Isabelle Dirks and husband Delmer of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; his sons, Lynn Schriner and wife Nancy of Plano, Texas, and Nolan Schriner and wife Sharon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Natha Haynes and husband Dan of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughters Julie Lazenby and husband Bill of Midland, Mich., Kelly Long and husband Lynn of Matthews, N.C., and Holly Haynes of Marietta, Ga.; grandsons, Scott Schriner and wife Sara of Olathe, Kan., Kyle Schriner of San Francisco, Calif., and Ryan Schriner of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Camden Lazenby, Madison Lazenby and Summer Lynn Long.

His parents, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.

Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Schriner, Ryan Schriner, Bill Lazenby, Scott Schriner, Bernard Beck, Boyd Christensen, Dan Haynes, Lynn Long and Gerry Clark.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the employees and staff of Schowalter Villa and also the congregation of the Hesston Mennonite Church.
