William Kirk Kaynor, Jr., 99, of Suffield beloved husband of the late Ruth Bunnie (Ball) Kaynor passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born January 8, 1915 in Springfield, MA son of the late Congressman William Kirk Kaynor and Alice Chapin (Reed) Kaynor, he grew up at Edgewood Gardens in Springfield. Later he lived in Longmeadow before moving to Suffield in 1975. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School before attending Darrow School in Lebanon, NY, and Massachusetts State College, Amherst (now Univ. of Mass). Throughout his life he had a passion for cars, and was a gifted mechanic, restoring many vehicles and antique cars. He was an active member of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Connecticut Valley Chapter. Bill was a member of the Retired Mens Club and the Chirp and Burp Society, and a regular Friday bowler with the Family Fossils. While living in Suffield he was a member of the Second Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, W. Kirk Kaynor, III of Suffield; two daughters, Katharine Kate Turpie of East Longmeadow, MA; Nancy Kaynor and her husband Christopher Libby of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Martin Turpie; a dear friend, Barbara Krohne; and all of his Edgewood Eight family which consisted of his four brothers, Allen, Jack, Ken and Edward Kaynor; a sister, Gratia Deane; and two cousins, Jack Reed and Cynthia Reed Sampson. Family and friends will remember Bill as a kind, gentle, funny man who told great stories, and loved all things mechanical. He would cleverly repair any needy machine, and could date any family photograph by vehicles in the scene. His family will receive friends Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
