MACON, Ga. - James Sewell Elliott, Jr., of 701 Springdale Woods Drive, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Services were held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola with Dr. Rick Lanford officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America, 4335 Confederate Way, Macon GA 31217; Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon GA 31210; or donor's favorite choice. Mr. Elliott was the first of five brothers to achieve Eagle Scout. He graduated from Stratford Academy in 1967. He received a B.A. at Tulane University in 1971 where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. Elliott served honorably in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He attended law school at Mercer University and the University of Georgia. Mr. Elliott was a fourth generation attorney who practiced law in Macon since 1974. He was a Vice President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association since 1987, a past President and was an active member of the Middle Georgia Workers' Compensation Claimant's Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He was Past President and member of the Macon Kiwanis Club. He was Kiwanian of the Year in 1987. Mr. Elliott was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He had a passion for life, golf, and travel. He became a huge NASCAR fan when his son Carman became involved in the sport. One of his happiest days in life came when his son Brandon made him a Grandpa. Mr. Elliott was like a teenager in love when he and Gina married in 2007 after their brief eighteen year engagement. He was always planning his next trip. He had many friends through the professional community and remained close friends with his high school classmates at Stratford Academy and college classmates in New Orleans. He is most honored and respected by many. He will be truly missed by all. Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, Gina Ussery Elliott of Macon; two sons, Carman Ussery Jaquez (Maritry) of Gastonia, NC and Brandon Hoyt Jiles (Carly) of Yokosuka, Japan; granddaughter, Delaney Kate Jiles; his father, James Sewell Elliott, Sr. of Macon; brothers, Lester Franklyn Elliott, II, M.D. (Tracey) of Atlanta, Walter Grace Elliott of Macon, Randolph Squire Elliott (Kathy) of Winter Park, FL, and Robert Bruce Elliott (Margaret) of Macon; and nine nieces and nephews.
