Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Milburn "Milli" Beitel III, (BUY'-dole) 30, of Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009. He was born Aug. 2, 1979, in San Antonio, and had resided in Nevada since 1995.

Milli proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer for the past six years. He previously worked at 24 Hour Fitness as a personal trainer. He was a member of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association Metro Inc.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a Vigil service immediately following, both at Palm Mortuary - Downtown, 1325 N. Main St.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Interment will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Donations can be made to the Injured Police Officers Fund, 9330 W. Lake Mead Blvd., Suite 130, Las Vegas, NV 89134.

News reports state that two officers were driving on Nellis Blvd when a car pulled out in front of them. Witnesses say the driver of the police car swerved to avoid a collision the patrol car rolled several times coming to a rest on the roof and catching fire. Officer Beitel died a a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
