Funeral Mass for Elaine Splichal, 76, of South Heart, ND is 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, South Heart with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will be 11:00 am CST, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Visitation will be 9 am to 9 pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 with a Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 pm. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at Stevenson Funeral Home.

Elaine passed away of natural causes, Saturday, October 3, 2009 at her home in South Heart.

Elaine was born on July 24, 1933 the daughter of George and Emma (Wandler) Heidt in Dickinson, ND. She grew up south of South Heart and attended South Heart Public School. Elaine married Val Splichal on August 16, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Heart. They made their home in Dickinson for a few years before returning to South Heart where they built a new home, and where Elaine still lived until her death. To this union four children were born, Karen, Duane, Bob and Joan. Throughout the years, Elaine worked for the South Heart school system driving bus and working in the hot lunch program. For several years Val and Elaine owned and operated the Village Inn Bar in South Heart. After selling the bar, Elaine worked side by side with Val in the floor covering business, until his death. The last six years Elaine once again worked part time with the hot lunch program at the school in South Heart. She always enjoyed working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers as well as feeding the birds and squirrels. Elaine and Val loved to dance the polka's and waltz's as well as listening to old time music. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and sang in the church choir for many years. She especially loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: two daughters, Karen (Larry) Kostelecky, Dickinson, ND and Joan (DuWayne) Metz, Jennings, KS; two sons, Duane (Lina) Splichal and Bob (Cindy) Splichal both of Dickinson, ND; eight grandchildren, Mark and Kim Kostelecky, Lucille, Emily, Luke and Penny Splichal and Mathew and Ronald Berger; two great-grandchildren, Chandler and Hailee Kostelecky; three brothers, John Heidt, Riverton, WY, Larry (Helen) Heidt, Bismarck, ND and Paul (Betty) Heidt, Dickinson, ND; two sisters, Jenny Vida, San Francisco, CA and Clara Wendel, South Heart, ND; a sister-in-law, Margaret Heidt, South Heart, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Val; a grandchild, Milody Splichal; two brothers, Tony and Fred Heidt; a sister, Kate Eberts and her husband, Frank and a brother-in-law, William Wendel.
