Funeral of Arthur Ashba.

Remains of Young Man Arrived Last Night.

The remains of Arthur Ashba, the 20 year old son of Daniel Ashba, who was killed Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Fe yards in Dodge City, Kans., were brought to the city last night arriving at 7:30 and accompanied by Will Ashba, a brother of the deceased. The story of the accidental killing is a particuarly sad one and came as a severe shock to the aged father, the sisters and brothers. As stated a day or two ago, Arthur had gone to Dodge City less than two weeks ago to work for the Santa Fe company. He secured a position as helper at the yards in that city, and at the time he was killed was engaged with a fellow workman in cleaning the cinders out of an engine which had been sent to the round house after making a trip.

The two men were under the engine and in the cinder pit, his companion crawled out and gave the signal to the man in the cab to go ahead which he did. Young Ashba was apparently in the act of climbing out of the pit directly in front of the drive wheels when the engine was moved. His head was caught by the heavy wheels and mashed into a pulp. One arm was also mangled and it is supposed that death resulted instantly. He probably did not realize what hurt him.

The funeral was held this afternoon from the home of Bert Lock on South Third street. Rev. H. Waitt conducting the service. The last resting place of Arthur Ashba is in Riverview cemetery.
