After an illness of several weeks, Daniel Hall died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John D. Babbit, on Wadsworth Hill, in the town of Ward, Saturday April 8, 1911, in his eighty-second year. Deceased was born Sept. 14, 1829, in what is now the town of Ward and with the exception of three years in the Civil War, and two years residence in Olean, has been a life long resident of Allegany county. He was married to Catherine Canfield, August 2, 1851 and began house keeping on the farm now owned by Elmer Hayes on what is known as Davis Hill road. Later realizing the necessity of better school privileges for his children, he removed to a farm on Waugh Brook where he lived until 1902, when he again moved to Scio. In 1905, Mrs. Hall's health failing, they gave up house keeping until her death in 1907, lived with their daughter, Mrs. S.E. Button in Olean. Since that time he has made his home with Mrs. Babbitt. He enlisted in Co. H, 1st N.Y. Dragoons , August 10, 1862, was discharged June 30, 1865, at Clouds Mills, Va. Fifty-seven years ago he united with the M.E. Church of which he has been a valuable member ever since.
He is survived by seven children, Mrs. C.H. Lents and Alphonzo Hall of Scio, Mrs. S.E. Button of Sanona, Cal., Mrs. M.E. VanNest of San Rafael, Cal., Mrs. M.J. Saunders of Belmont, Daniel L. Hall of Bradford, Pa., and Mrs. John D. Babbitt of Ward. The eldest son, Francis M. Hall of Oil City, Pa. died in 1902. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three half brothers, Alvia of Alfred, Zephaniah of Wellsville and Russell of Whitesville. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church of Scio Monday afternoon, Rev. A.A. Craw officiating.
