Luther came to Atchison County from Buchanan County, Missouri, and was the son of Henry and Susan Gill. He married Minnie Knauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Knauer of Atchison, in 1883. They had no children.
Surviving him are his wife and a brother, P. E. Gill, who lives on a farm near him. He was one of 11 children, all of whom have preceded him in death except his brother. All of his life he was a strict Christian, a good farmer, a brilliant conversationalist. He loved children and they loved him and would gather about him to hear him talk and entertain them.
Services: Methodist Church in Muscotah, Kansas. Burial: Muscotah Cemetery.
