A "friends of the cemetery" group raised money to have a headstone, consisting of recycled material and a plaque, installed on the spot where Charles Henry Adams is buried. Adams served as Muskegon Heights' first mayor.
The plaque states, "Charles H. Adams, 11/21/1930, 1st Mayor of Muskegon Heights."
In addition to being the city's first mayor, Adams was a member of Temple Methodist Church in Muskegon Heights, a member of Muskegon F&A.M. Lodge No. 140 and an honorary member of the National Engineering Society. He was employed for about 40 years by Shaw Crane Works of Muskegon Heights.
Adams was born July 7, 1856 in St. Johnsburg, Vermont, but he spent the majority of his life in Muskegon Heights. He died in 1930 at age 74 at his home, 916 Peck, after an illness.
