Mrs. Mary Quinn Campbell Downing aged 62 (more likely 72) years died yesterday morning at her home on Upper Broadway, Fort Edward, NY of pneumonia. She is survived by a daughter Miss Rose Campbell and three sons, John and Thomas Campbell and William Downing all of Fort Edward. The funeral arrangements have not been finalized. The Rev. M. J. Griffith officiating.
Burial in Lot 50, Section 7, Union Cemetery, Upper Broadway, Fort Edward, New York. There is no stone on her grave just one for her first husband John Campbell.
Mary was born in Ireland according to census records. Her father was a Michael Quinn, mother unknown. She married around 1850 to John Campbell. They lived in Fort Edward, NY, he died young at age 38 in 1862 at which her father came to live with her until his death.
She later married James Downing (Downey) July 21, 1870 and had one son, William Downing. James Downing died sometime before 1892. Mary is believed to have had 8 children with John Campbell according to census records. The 1900 Census states she was the mother of 10, however only 4 living at that time. At the time of her death she was living with Rose and Thomas both unmarried in her home. She was listed in the city directory as a landlady, renting rooms from her home on Upper Broadway in Fort Edward.
